With a background in theater and performance acting, it is always exciting to see what happens when Haugerud enters the stage. Their spiritual leader for the occasion is Tor Haugerud - known for his imaginative and creative power in improvised music. Kjellerbandet has for many years been one of the most active big bands in Trondheim and has housed hundreds of young musical talents from the city's student community. Kjellerbandet takes the leap into the cosmic world, and with Tor Haugerud at the helm, they will navigate through music from Sun Ra's huge catalog! Space is the Place - a tribute to Sun Ra! It will be a hefty and varied concert with catchy rhythms and heavy beats - as much a party as a concert! The funky collective has been electrifying audiences around the globe all year long, and is currently making their way around Europe on a 2-week run. The Ghost-Note crew has been on a serious tour grind in 2019. Hartswick will be pulling double-duty during the Phish run, as the TAB trumpeter and vocalist will also be playing with The Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein’s Star Kitchen the night before, Sunday, December 29th, also at Sony Hall.
Joining Ghost-Note as the “Friends” portion of the bill will be Trey Anastasio Band trumpeter/vocalist Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), D’Angelo and The Vanguard singers Rojo “REDD” Lavoe and Ahrel Lumzy, and Cory Henry/Childish Gambino vocal collaborator STOUT. For this guest-filled, late-night Ghost-Note & Friends Play Prince blowout, the insanely gifted outfit led by percussionists Nate Werth and Robert Sput Searight (Snarky Puppy) will dive headfirst into the beloved Prince catalog to help NYC party like it’s (almost) 2020. The show will take place late-night after Phish at MSG.īetween bassist MonoNeon, saxophonist Sylvester Onyejiaka, and keyboardist Dominique Xavier Taplin-all former Prince collaborators-the Purple One’s pedigree is always well-represented with Ghost-Note. Acclaimed jazz/hip-hop/funk/world-fusion outfit Ghost-Note will gather some talented friends for a very special tribute to Prince at New York’s Sony Hall on Monday, December 30th.
